DUBAI: Emirates has officially launched its daily service to Hangzhou, marking the airline’s fifth destination in mainland China and its second new route to the country within a month, following Shenzhen.

Flight EK310 touched down at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport on 30 July, greeted by a ceremonial water cannon salute and a warm welcome from local dignitaries and airport officials.

Passengers on the inaugural flight were presented with commemorative keychains, flight certificates, and traditional Chinese tea tasting sets to celebrate the milestone.

The flight carried a wide mix of international travellers from key markets such as the UAE, Nigeria, Spain, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil. The delegation also included Emirates’ senior management and international media representatives.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, stated: “China has become one of the world’s leading aviation markets, and Emirates is proud to have played a role in its development. Adding two new gateways within just one month is a major milestone that underscores our deepening commitment to the Chinese mainland.”

Flight schedule

Operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, flight EK310 departs Dubai at 0940hrs and arrives in Hangzhou at 2200hrs. The return leg, EK311, departs Hangzhou at 0010hrs and lands in Dubai at 0455hrs.

The schedule has been designed to offer seamless connectivity to passengers from 40 European cities, 21 African destinations, 13 locations in the Middle East, and countries like Brazil and Argentina. Travellers flying into Hangzhou via Dubai also benefit from onward connections to global cities including Istanbul, Barcelona, Cairo, and Johannesburg.

Enhanced cargo capacity

The wide-body Boeing 777-300ER aircraft allows for the transport of up to 16 tonnes of bellyhold cargo per flight. This capacity supports the movement of high-value and time-sensitive goods such as e-commerce shipments, smart devices, pharmaceuticals, and more.

Hangzhou, often referred to as one of the world’s largest hubs for cross-border e-commerce, features a highly integrated digital trade environment and robust logistics infrastructure. These strengths position it as a strategic outbound hub for Chinese brands looking to access global markets.

Emirates SkyCargo connects Hangzhou’s goods with emerging economies across the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and Latin America through its Dubai hub, ensuring reduced delivery timelines and improved supply chain efficiency.

Emirates in China

Emirates now operates 49 flights weekly to five major cities in the Chinese mainland: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. In addition, the airline has extended its luxury chauffeur-drive service in Hangzhou, providing First and Business Class passengers with complimentary transfers within an 80-kilometre radius using Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles. This premium service is also available in over 70 global cities including Paris, London, Milan, and Beijing.

The introduction of the Hangzhou route supports a growing corridor for trade, tourism, and innovation between China and the Middle East. It also allows more Chinese companies to access new consumer markets while providing Emirates’ passengers with increased access to a key tech and commerce hub.

Passengers flying the route can enjoy Emirates’ acclaimed ice entertainment system, which features more than 6,500 channels in over 40 languages – including Chinese. Onboard menus have been curated with a regional twist, offering popular Chinese cuisine and desserts.

Partnerships and travel access

Through existing codeshare and interline agreements with China Southern Airlines, Air China, and Sichuan Airlines, Emirates passengers can access a broader range of cities within China.

Outside of aviation, Emirates continues to strengthen its ties with the Chinese tourism sector. The airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UAE China Cultural Centre last year to promote tourism to China across its global markets.

Travellers from the UAE and other GCC countries can enter China visa-free for up to 30 days, further simplifying travel for both business and leisure purposes.
